An interactive way-finding kiosks helps patients and their families navigate the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) at Kaiser Permanente's Capitol Hill Medical Center in Washington, DC. The medical center's common spaces reflect a Total Health Environment design, which creates a therapeutic environment for the ears and eyes. Walls are curved rather than straight to create an organic, natural space. The LCD displays feature health information education - rather than television -- with sound coming from strategically placed speakers over the seating area. All art features images from nature, drawing on research that proves natural images reduce heart rates.
